Thick, billowing smoke can be seen rising from Paris’ iconic Notre Dame Cathedral in shocking footage snapped by witnesses on Monday.

The top of the French landmark was still ablaze as the sun set Monday — and crews of firefighters continued working tirelessly to contain the massive flames while the fire spread to one of the church’s historic rectangular towers.

“Everything is burning, nothing will remain from the frame,” Notre Dame spokesman Andre Finot told French media outlets.

The peak of the church, one of the world’s most famous tourist attractions, is undergoing a $6.8 million renovation project. It’s unclear if the fire is related to the construction, though the fire brigade has confirmed it’s a possibility.

One man in the city called the view “unreal.”

“I literally just visited Notre Dame two days ago. I’m currently looking at the smoke from a restaurant patio in Paris right now,” he wrote on Twitter after news of the fire broke.

A woman who only identifies herself as “Sun” online tweeted a 15-second clip of the blaze, claiming she was around the scene when the fire first started.

“Omg it keeps getting bigger and bigger so fast, i’m leaving now but in case it catches up to the crowd um hi at least my last moments were in Paris,” she wrote in a Twitter thread.

Another woman shared footage of the plumes of smoke that she could spot across the Seine River.

“This is just awful. #NotreDame,” a man added, sharing multiple videos of the burning spire.

As of about 1:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local time), the man confirmed the building was “still burning.”

Another Twitter user said he could see the smoke from Villejuif, a suburb in Paris located more than four miles away from the city’s center.

“So I’m [in] France right now and a friend of mine on discord hits me up saying the historical building, Notre Dame is on fire. At that moment I checked out my window and saw the flames. This is a sad day for France. Here’s a vid I tried to get a good angle,” another wrote, sharing raw footage of the devastating scene.

“When the monument of your childhood goes up in smoke,” one French woman captioned an Instagram post.

“Oh My! So devastating, I can remember the first time I saw this cathedral and each additional time, such a breathtaking structure both inside and out. I just hope no injuries!” one woman added, along with a photo of the structure burning from across the Seine.

French President Emmanuel Macron arrived at Notre Dame to survey the damage hours after the building was engulfed in flames.

Last week, 16 religious statues were removed from the peak for the first time in over a century to be taken for cleaning and fortunately escaped the blaze.

This is Islam. Search “Break the Cross:” It is the English name of an ISIS magazine; & it means to destroy churches & Christians. It’s a hadith (“tradition” of Mohammed) regarding Islam’s End Times, when Jesus (a human prophet who foretold the coming of Mohammed, did not die on the cross, did not resurrect, etc.) returns to “break the Cross, kill the pigs, abolish the Jizya.”

That translates as killing all Christians who won’t convert; killing pigs since no one will be left who eats them; & abolishing the protection tax; because the belongings of the slaughtered infidels will have been divvied up among the believers (Socialist heaven). This is the example set by Islam’s perfect man to be emulated, Mohammed; & what Hitler, Arabs’ ally, did to the Jews, Poles, etc.). First the Saturday People, then the Sunday People (Jews first, then Christians).

Sahih Bukhari: Allah’s Messenger said, “The Hour will not be established until you fight with the Jews, and the stone behind which a Jew will be hiding will say. “O Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind me, so kill him.”

Allah’s Messenger said, “The Hour will not be established until the son of Mary (i.e. Jesus) descends amongst you as a just ruler, he will break the cross, kill the pigs, and abolish the Jizya tax. Money will be in abundance so that nobody will accept it (as charitable gifts).

“Did you know that some 50 churches in France were vandalized just during the month of February?”

If they determine that this is in fact arson (probably by a muzlim) I wonder if they’ll keep it quiet? If they published their findings as such, France might purge itself of the muzlim plague they suffer now. The ‘yellow jackets’ just might find a real target other than the inept socialist French government.
    Curious that:
The fire started minutes after the place closed for the day.
The fire seems to have been strategically placed so that the tower acted as a massive and very effective chimney to vent and accelerate the flames.
Do the French have little or no fire equipment capable of dealing with a structure like this? What about their modern buildings, would they be any more effective with those?

This was deliberate. Fires don’t just start. Especially when under supervised maintenance by top contractors.

I’m speaking as a Professional Engineer myself.

Will these mindless cretins like Macaroni Macron keep the facts hidden?

It was a terrorist attack, most likely Muslims.

They’ve already said it was an accident. Uh huh.
The cathedral closed and about 5 minutes later the fire starts?
