HBO talk-show host Bill Maher hammered former Michigan Democratic Governor Jennifer Granholm after she cheered a recent decision by tech companies to ban Alex Jones and Infowars from their platforms.

Granholm — a far-left CNN commentator and advisor to Media Matters — yelled “thank God!” after Maher brought up how social media companies had kicked Jones off their platforms (after receiving pressure from CNN to do so).

Maher, who noted that Jones had told “crazy lies” about him, responded to Granholm’s smirk — and cheers from the audience — by saying, “well, if you’re a liberal, you’re supposed to be for free speech.”

“That’s free speech for the speech you hate,” Maher passionately stated. “That’s what free speech means. We’re losing the thread of the concepts that are important to this country.”

“If you care about the real American sh*t or you don’t,” Maher continued. “And if you do, it goes for every side. I don’t like Alex Jones, but Alex Jones gets to speak. Everybody gets to speak.”

One of the very few times I agree with this guy. Most of the time I just want to punch him in the mouth.

I’m with him on this one. Maher may be an asshat (IMHO) a lot of the time, but he always has been open to hearing from the other side. He constantly defends Ann Coulter, and they are good friends.

Well, there’s definitely some “deep crap” going on behind the scenes in this country, but unfortunately the media is one heck of a weapon wielded by those who want to push it even deeper. Sure, Alex Jones is given to hyperbole, but how else are you gonna get anyone’s attention through the fog of distraction and disinformation that grows denser every day?

It’s called the free marketplace of ideas. It’s one of the cornerstones of this country and Leftists hate it.
The free exchange of ideas exposes Leftist policies for the abject failures that they are.

Use to at one time really like Maher and he then went South in how he stood on politics and gave up listening anymore. Now his comment on Alex Jones who I have never listened to and his saying that if you take down Alex Jones what happens to the rest of us who want to speak out. Right on Bill that is what is the truth let me make up my mind on PC in the media and not others deciding per taking off people because they decide or a group tries to write in and threaten. NO let Bill speak out, The President speak out and we the listeners will decide on who we listen to? Unless someone is telling real down and out lies or threatening to harm someone or telling nasty things then yes. Give them a smack and then a chance later on to come back. If they do something terrible again then bye bye. Thank you , Bill I may decide to ck in on you again. Adios Ole Ga Lady

I do not like Bill Maher, but he has the same rights as Alex Jones. I’m a staunch conservative, and I do not like much of what Alex Jones has to say, but he is granted the right to say what he thinks by the 1st Amendment. We all are granted the same wonderful right of free speech and free opinions. How many other countries allow you to criticize the government?

Even though I don’t watch Bill Maher, he seems to get free speech is for everyone on BOTH sides, not just for liberals or democrats. (Hence, immediately silencing the catty witch)

What I find is interesting, that these people are only speaking on the issue because, in my opinion, they are worried about their “free speech” being “censored”, or taken away from them, the same way that Alex Jones’ free speech rights were taken away from him, on social platforms.

    And rightfully so.

The people who developed these sites, regardless of political affiliation, should have realized this could be a future issue, therefore, either blocking it from happening from the start, or let every political opinion be heard.

You can’t change things in mid stream, just because it upsets your feel goods.

Don’t care for either one but it’s nice to see Bill Maher at least uphold one principle of a democracy. Granholm is a Canadien, who got elected by the UAW, MEA and other unions. Thank heaven we have term limits in Michigan, she ruined our economy with her leftist ideas. State did economically well under a Republican governor.

It’s an election year in the state. Unfortunately, we have a Granholm protege in the wings with Gretchen Whitmer, another union supported puppet.

Bill Maher would not earn money if he wasn’t allowed Free Speech. CNN’s dummy spokesperson does not understand Free Speech yet. Hire someone new CNN. CNN is getting less respect every day.

I think Bill Maher is showing his less than liberal side… he may be a patriot after all!

What qualifications do you have to have to become an ‘analyst’? Mostly what Ive seen is nice tits. That’s about it. So then you open your mouth and powaia;lnkptairwpo comes out. CNN certainly deserves the Rowan and Martin “Fickle finger of fate” for hiring this loser. Yeah, let’s limit free speech. GAWD!

Bill recognizes that he is just as exposed to being restricted in speech as anyone else… and CNN doesn’t really care about his concerns.
