According to an explosive report in the Huffington Post, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) fired his communications director because of allegations of improper sexual relations with his staffers.
Huffpo investigative reporter Yashar Ali tweeted about the bombshell report Friday.
“Chuck Schumer’s longtime communications director Matt House was forced out last November after it was revealed that he had inappropriate sexual encounters with junior staffers leading some to feel uncomfortable,” Ali reported.
Ali cited two sources who said that House had been fired after the sexual encounters, ending a tenure as the Democratic leader’s communications director that had lasted almost six years.
The report was confirmed by a statement from Schumer’s office.
“Upon learning that he had inappropriate encounters within the office and that it was making some staff uncomfortable,” the statement read, “he was asked to leave.”
House also appeared to confirm the report in a statement texted to Ali.
I absolutely loved my time working in the Senate and it was the honor of my life. I deeply regret the mistakes I made on the number of occasions when I had too much to drink, and I apologize to anyone who was affected by my behavior. I have always respected all of my colleagues and I was horrified to learn that I made anyone feel uncomfortable. In the past three months, I’ve stopped drinking and I’ve committed to making myself a better colleague and person.
House worked as the communications director on Joe Biden’s 2008 presidential campaign.
No formal complaints were made against House over the sexual encounters.
