President Donald Trump vetoed a congressional disapproval resolution of his national emergency declaration at the U.S. southern border Friday afternoon, in a ceremony at the Oval Office.

Trump characterized the resolution as “dangerous” in Oval Office comments, and maintained that “the protection of the nation is my highest duty.”

Trump’s national emergency declaration nearly a month ago is paired with a number of executive actions designed to make approximately $8 billion of funding available to begin construction on a wall along the southern border.

The resolution passed the Republican-controlled Senate and the Democrat-controlled House by a large majority and officially registers a rebuke of Trump’s action. The resolution is non-binding however unless both chambers of Congress are able to muster a two-thirds majority, support they are not currently able to demonstrate.

Twelve Republicans joined the Democrats in voting for the resolution, saying that Trump is circumventing Congress’s enumerated power of the purse to appropriate funds and using them as he pleases. Nearly all have noted that future Democratic presidents would exploit Trump’s action and declare their own national emergencies to fulfill campaign promises.

They included Sens. Marco Rubio, Rob Portman, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Pat Toomey, Roy Blunt, Lamar Alexander, Mitt Romney, Rand Paul, Jerry Moran, Mike Lee, and Roger Wicker.

Trump made clear ahead of the vote and after the vote that he would issue a swift veto. The veto will likely put the matter to rest as neither chamber of Congress appears to have the necessary two-thirds majority to overturn Trump’s veto.

It’s about time something is getting done about the border.
Too bad it had to come to this.
These Evil Democrats don’t care for America.
They care for their pockets and Illegals.
    Throw them OUT!!!

Thank you for caring more about us than Congress does. Billions of dollars are spent on illegals every year that could be going elsewhere. If the money spent on illegals went towards infrastructure we would benefit with better roads and more jobs but Democrats want to keep the rest of us supporting illegals. Anyone voting Democrat should have their wages garnished at least 50% to support the illegals they want coming here.

The 12 Senates who stand with the Dem. are Trump haters. They have never been on board with Trump. Some of these haters are just plain jealous because Trump is President and they are NOT. Maybe that’s why, Trump is for the people and they are for themselves ” the vote”. Trump cares they don’t .

Marco Rubio, Rob Portman, Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Pat Toomey, Roy Blunt, Lamar Alexander, Mitt Romney, Rand Paul, Jerry Moran, Mike Lee, and Roger Wicker, RINO’s one and all, need to be voted out in 2020. These ‘never Trumpers’ have obstructed Trumps progress at every turn, part of the reason the wall project never got done when they had a majority of both houses. Romney has taken over the backstabber position that McCain played, with the ONE CRITICAL DOWN VOTE that kept 0bamacare pretty much intact.

It’s a shame that everyone is so quick to condemn the man for sticking to what is truly needed for our safety. It didn’t have to come down to this. Dems voted for it in the past and just wanted to humiliate and hurt the president due to their hate of him. Now, with drugs coming into this country at a rate that would kill the entire nation, I would say we DO have an emergency. I’m saddened that hatred is at the center of this issue. Anyone who has ever had a loved one addicted to drug, sexually assaulted, killed, trafficked or abused should be standing together to get the job done. It’s horrific. It’s a tragedy. We need the wall. We need to protect ourselves. God Bless President Trump for sticking to his gun and pushing for protection. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY!

I am glad he has the backbone to stick to what he says he will do. Someone on the hills has to stick up for the American people instead of the illegals. Someone on the hill has to protect our borders. BUILD THE WALL!
