Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) ran to the defense of his former vice presidential running mate Paul Ryan after President Donald Trump targeted him for a furious Twitter denunciation.

The president lashed out at the former House speaker over derogatory comments he made in an upcoming book.

“Paul Ryan, the failed V.P. candidate & former Speaker of the House, whose record of achievement was atrocious (except during my first two years as President), ultimately became a long running lame duck failure, leaving his Party in the lurch both as a fundraiser & leader,” the president tweeted.

“When Mitt chose Paul I told people that’s the end of that Presidential run. He quit Congress because he didn’t know how to Win. They gave me standing O’s in the Great State of Wisconsin, & booed him off the stage. He promised me the Wall, & failed (happening anyway!),” he continued.

“He had the Majority & blew it away with his poor leadership and bad timing. Never knew how to go after the Dems like they go after us,” Trump added.

“Couldn’t get him out of Congress fast enough!” he concluded.

Ryan is quoted in the book as saying that the president didn’t know anything about how to run a government, and that he retired in order to get away from the situation.

“I’m telling you, he didn’t know anything about government,” said Ryan. “I wanted to scold him all the time.”

Romney defended Ryan by taking the blame for the loss in 2012 against former President Barack Obama.

“The fault for our 2012 loss is mine alone,” tweeted Romney, “@SpeakerRyan was a tireless campaigner, fundraiser, and conservative champion.”

“As the sole person who could unite the House, he acquiesced to be Speaker as a service to the country,” he added.

“His selfless leadership and lifelong policy work were critical to the tax and regulatory reform that have helped propel the economy,” he concluded in a second tweet. “A man like Paul Ryan does not often come along.”

Trump continued his vitriol against Paul before reporters on Friday.

“Paul Ryan let us down. Paul Ryan was a terrible speaker,” Trump said. “Frankly, he was a baby. He didn’t know what the hell he was doing.”

Paul Ryan is correct. President Trump does not want to run the government they way he believes the government should be run. That is exactly the reason why the people voted for President Trump. They are tired of the way the government has been run. Why? Because the results were a disaster. Look at the problems at the southern border. Look at the reasons for the “great recession”. Look at the outrageous health insurance costs for the self employed and working families. Look at the decline of manufacturing and manufacturing jobs in the U.S. that has occurred for decades. The reasons for these and all other problems is incompetency on the part of Congress. Congress has exhausted the patience of working Americans, so lead, follow or get out of the way. Oh, you have done the latter.

Ryan knew exactly what he was doing…. he was a RINO who hated President Trump and took the side of the liberals in the hope of destroying this administration! Paul Ryan accomplished NOTHING and Romney can talk all he wants but everyone KNOWS he too is a jealous Trump hater who can’t stand that Trump won the presidency and HE didn’t! President Trump has done a TREMENDOUS job…. considering he doesn’t know a thing about running the government! (Just think what he could do if his party backed him, if the press gave him credit when it’s due, and liars were held accountable!
