Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) said Friday he intends to present an amendment to “block” President Trump from “arbitrarily revoking security clearances.”

The Senate Intelligence Committee’s highest-ranking Democrat tweeted his announcement Friday afternoon in response to the Trump administration’s decision to revoke former CIA Director John Brennan’s security clearance:

Warner’s plans to add his proposal to the Senate’s defense appropriations bill, which also has provisions to fund the Department of Labor and the Department of Health and Human Services, Fox News reported.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced on Trump’s behalf Wednesday that the administration would revoke Brennan’s security clearance, saying he “has a history that calls in to question his objectivity and credibility.”

Sanders, reading Trump’s statement aloud at the Wednesday White House press briefing, added that Brennan also “leveraged” his access to classified information to make outlandish claims about the president.

“Mr. Brennan has recently leveraged his status as a former high ranking official with access to highly sensitive information to make a series of unfounded and outrageous allegations, wild outbursts on the internet and television about this administration,” the statement read, in part.

Brennan, who served as CIA director under the Obama administration, has been a vocal critic of the Trump administration and had recently encouraged Republican lawmakers to impeach Trump after his July 16 press conference in Helsinki with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The administration is also looking to revoke the security clearances of several other former and current officials, with Trump announcing Friday he plans to revoke the clearance for Department of Justice official Bruce Ohr.

Warner called the Trump administration’s decision to revoke the security clearances of these officials an “effort to silence critics.”

“This is clearly another effort to silence critics and not allow the Mueller investigation and for that matter the Senate Intelligence Committee investigation to get to the bottom of this,” the Virginia Democrat said.

“effort to silence critics”? Could this person please inform me HOW removing the security clearance of these individuals would actually silence them. Did they actually think before making this ridiculous statement? If they are no longer government employees, they no longer need security clearance. END OF.

I totally agree! Once I quit my job working at a hospital, I NO LONGER was allowed clearance to read the hospital records of patients! How dare ANYONE think this is some kind of lifetime gift when it’s actually a privilege that should NEVER be allowed once you no longer hold a position that requires a security clearance! Brennan and all those who WILL be losing their status need to GET OVER IT and GIVE IT UP!

The only thing I agree with in this guy’s statement, is the word “arbitrarily.” Clearance should “absolutely and without equivocation,” be revoked, immediately upon confirmation of dismissal or resignation. Period.

Warner can do that but it will go no where. All blow and no show. Brennan has undermined a dully elected President. Actually he is a security risk. He has been a big part of a the silent coup. That is treason…so taking his clearance is the least that should be done to him.

Any kind of intelligence clearance should be blocked upon removal of position. Period.

There are no “grey areas” there, nor should it be permissible to stop the president from doing so if these people are posing security risks.

Threatening the president is the highest security risk there is.

Should have kept their mouths, and political opinions, to themselves. This also proves the “witch hunt” was nothing but biased garbage paid for by the democratic party and Clinton. Her minions are cracking and showing their true colors.

This is real important to the swamp, so I say, revoke them all. There’s not a good reason for anyone having security clearance if their job doesn’t require it. If they don’t even work for the Govt. absolutely no “Good” reason. I think it’s the swamps lifeblood. Think of it, you don’t work for the Govt., you can’t ever share, or use any of the information you read, you can’t sell the info. So what is the purpose? They obviously do share and sell the info they gain. Well that’s criminal. Pull the plug on all non govt. people having security clearances. That means all of them….former Presidents included. No one gets govt. clearance unless they have a current job that requires it.

The standard for security clearances has always been to terminate the clearance when you’re no longer working on the job. That is her normal Americans who don’t get special privileges.

I don’t understand why impeachment was started just because of the visit to Helsinki, isn’t it the Presidents job to try and reach common ground to prevent wars? Tell me why a President would put all his cards on the table when you are playing poker. Make small talk agree on certain things but don’t shake on it. Lead them on making the opposite side believe you are in agreement with them. Keep them guessing to what you are up to but don’t show all your cards. Listen to them talk and if the time comes when you make your move hit them hard take them down.

Senator Warner is an idiot, clearly has ZERO concept of what constitutional powers of the President truly are. Also, considering that former CIA chief Brennan’s actions completely warrant the revocation of his Security clearance.

How did such an idiot get onto the intelligence committee in the first place ??

The same could be said regarding Diane finestien.

How exactly does this silence Brennan? All it does is remove his security clearance which he clearly deserves. When you go on tv everyday and spout lies and half truths its a problem.

Much ado about nothing. A security clearance does not grant you license to access classified information if you do not have a “need to know”. In fact, it is against the law to access classified information that you don’t have a “need to know”. Brennan should be in jail for accessing information that he had no authority to see. Mark Warner is an idiot. He needs to read up on the “separation of powers.”
