Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) want more information about what the Obama administration knew regarding Russian interference in the 2016 elections.

The coverage of Russian meddling in the 2016 election has been steady since President Donald Trump took office, with much of the focus being on alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and the Kremlin, which prompted an investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

However, there is not much public information about the response from former President Barack Obama while this alleged collusion was supposedly happening. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) released a report showing that Russians had interfered with the 2016 election and even notified states following the 2016 election that they had been targeted by Russians.

Now, the Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee want to know what the Obama administration knew and when it knew it.

In a letter to current DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, Jordan and Meadows pointed to a few meetings held between Congress and several members of the Obama administration. During the meeting, the Obama administration “assured members that it was adequately addressing any attempted interference in the election.”

Obama’s team also was asked to brief members of the campaign staffs for both Trump and Hillary Clinton about the situation.

Jordan and Meadows asked for all documents and communication from the Obama administration so they can see how the interference was being handled and to see how both campaign teams were being briefed about the situation.

According to a report by the Washington Examiner, Republicans requested this information because they believe Obama may have minimized the level of interference during the election because of fears that it would delegitimize Clinton, had she won the election. When Trump won, some Republicans believe they sounded the horn because they knew it would make voters question Trump’s election.

This information request from Jordan and Meadows follows a request made by Democrats for information from 81 people close to Trump to see if they have details about the president’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Although it isn’t clear what will come of either request, Jordan and Meadows asked that the documents be delivered to Congress by March 19.

Why isn’t Mueller investigating? Isn’t his charge to investigate Russian meddling? Instead he seems fixated on who in the Trump camp they can investigate in order to get indictments unrelated to the Russians. Stop the witch hunt and investigate obama.

This is almost too little, too late. What is needed in a full investigation of Mueller and everyone found to have “crossed the line”. They are all guilty and deserve punishment including Mueller – not Trump.
